Alloy 600 INCONEL® 600 – W. Nr. 2.4816 / UNS N06600 / ASTM B166, B168, B564

Alloy 600 INCONEL® 600

Alloy 600 INCONEL® 600 is a nickel -chromium-iron alloy designed to offer corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance. This alloy features a unique combination of high mechanical strength and excellent machinability . Due to its high nickel content (min. 72%), INCONEL® 600 is highly resistant to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking and maintains its integrity even in oxidizing and reducing environments.

The addition of chromium provides resistance to oxidizing and sulfurous environments, while iron improves the alloy’s strength. INCONEL® 600 is not precipitation hardenable, but it can be strengthened through cold working.

Due to its versatility, this alloy is used in a wide range of applications, from low cryogenic temperatures up to temperatures above 1095°C.

Reference standards:

  • ASTM B166 (bars and wires)
  • ASTM B168 (sheet and strip)
  • ASTM B564 (flanges and forgings)

Heat treatments

  • Solution annealing: 1010 – 1150°C with rapid cooling in air or water to maintain corrosion resistance.
  • Hot forming: Optimal temperature range between 1040 and 1230°C, with subsequent cooling to avoid carbide precipitation.
  • Cold forming: Excellent machinability with a greater tendency to work hardening than stainless steels.
