Alloy A286 INCOLOY® A286 – W. Nr. 1.4980 / UNS S66286 / ASTM A638, B564, B366

Alloy A286 INCOLOY® A286

Alloy A286 INCOLOY® A286 is an iron- nickelchromium alloy with added molybdenum, titanium, and vanadium, designed to be precipitation hardenable. This alloy offers high mechanical properties and oxidation resistance up to 700°C (1300°F).

Thanks to its excellent tensile strength, fatigue resistance, and creep resistance, Alloy A 286 is ideal for critical applications such as:

  • Aircraft turbine components.
  • Components for power generation plants.
  • Fasteners for the automotive and oil & gas sectors.

Reference standards:

  • ASTM A638 (bars and forgings)
  • ASTM B564 (flanges and forgings)
  • ASTM B366 (fittings)

Physical properties

  • Density: 7.94 g/cm³
  • Melting Range: 1370 – 1430°C
  • Young’s Modulus: 201 GPa
  • Magnetic permeability: 1.007 to 200 oersteds
  • Thermal Conductivity: 14.1 W/m°C (at 100°C)

Heat treatments

  1. Solution annealing: 1800°F (980°C), rapid cooling in air.

  2. Aging: 1325°F (720°C) for 16 hours, followed by air cooling.

    • The 1800°F treatment guarantees maximum creep resistance.
    • A treatment at 1650°F improves ductility and tensile strength at room temperature.
