Heat Treatments: AISI 446 steel is not generally subjected to heat treatments to improve its mechanical properties, as its main characteristics are resistance to corrosion and oxidation at elevated temperatures. However, it can be heated to elevated temperatures and slowly cooled for stress relief.
Machinability: AISI 446 steel can be machinable using standard techniques, but its high resistance to corrosion and oxidation may require specific tools and appropriate machining techniques to avoid tool wear.
Weldability: This steel has limited weldability due to its high chromium content, which can cause cracking during welding. Specific welding procedures and preheating are recommended to reduce the risk of cracking.
Common Applications:
Boiler and furnace linings
Chemical plant components
Incinerator parts
Exhaust systems
Heat exchangers
Components for the petrochemical industry
Corrosion Resistance: AISI 446 steel offers excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation, especially in high-temperature environments and in the presence of aggressive gases such as chlorine and sulfur.
